Call for Nominations for the 'Local Agents of Peace' Awards

15 May 2023

Every year, the Rotary Peace Centre at the University of Queensland’s School of Political Science and International Studies celebrates ‘Local Agents of Peace’ in a special event held on the annual International Day of Peace (21 September 2023 at St John’s Cathedral, Anne St, Brisbane, time tbc).

These awards are given to a Queensland-based person or organisation who has made a substantial contribution to peace and peace building activities, consistent with principles of non-violence, either locally, nationally, or globally.

If you would like to nominate an individual or an organisation for the 2023 ‘Local Agent of Peace’ award, please submit your nomination form by 1 July 2023.

Recent recipients include:

  • The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
  • The Romero Centre in Brisbane
  • QPASTT Brisbane
  • Sister Wendy Flannery, WILPF Vice President
  • Sisters Inside
  • The Muu'oz Cafe

Staff and members of UQ/Rotary will typically not be considered for the award unless their work has been undertaken over a sustained period of time and with a degree of distance from their professional/voluntary contribution in either organisation.
