Class XVII (2019-2020)

9. Chiaki Takenouchi

Japan

Chiaki is a young professional who is passionate about children's rights and a bottom-up approach to human rights protection. Originally from Japan, she spent half of her life in the Netherlands. As a global citizen, she has studied and worked across the world, starting from the Netherlands, Kosovo and Thailand to East Africa. She completed a B.A. in International Relations and Anthropology and as Advanced LL.M. in International Child Rights. After working with international NGOs and an intergovernmental organisation, she started working for a local NGO based in Lebanon, working with conflict and displacement affected populations in Lebanon, Turkey and Syria. During the Peace Fellowship, she hopes to gain deeper academic knowledge and insights to the theories and practice of Peace and Conflict Studies, with a particular focus on the nexus between restorative justice, bottom up peace-making and policy making, and child rights. The Fellowship will offer a unique opportunity to explore various approaches, expand her horizon and find innovative ways to prevent and respond to intractable conflicts.
