Class XXIV (2026–2027)
2. Maria Camila Arenas Gonzalez – Colombia
Maria views the Rotary Peace Fellowship as a crucial step in her personal and professional growth, equipping her with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively address the complex challenges her country and the international community face today in advancing peacebuilding and conflict resolution processes. The opportunity to connect with professionals from around the world in an international academic setting, inspired by their desire to transform their realities, will enrich her understanding and allow her to be part of a broader community of engaged individuals committed to making positive changes wherever they go.
After completing the fellowship, Maria plans to return to Colombia equipped with the practical and innovative tools and academic insights required to drive impactful initiatives in crime prevention and peacebuilding. She envisions promoting dialogue and reconciliation processes among grassroots communities, law enforcement agencies, governmental institutions, and other key stakeholders in her future roles. In the long term, Maria aims to contribute to positioning Colombia as a benchmark in restorative justice and restorative practices, while advancing crime prevention strategies and strengthening the
reintegration of young offenders into their communities.
