Class XXIV (2026–2027)
3. Sajani Balasingam – Sri Lanka
With a Bachelor of Social Work and five years of experience working with NGOs and international organizations like UN Migration, Sajani has gained practical insights into fostering social cohesion and reconciliation in Sri Lanka, a country recovering from three decades of conflict. She sees the Rotary Peace Fellowship as an opportunity to gain advanced knowledge, tools, and global perspectives to refine her peacebuilding approaches, strengthen her ability to analyse conflicts, design effective reconciliation programs, and engage diverse stakeholders in promoting sustainable peace.
After completing the fellowship, Sajani plans to apply her knowledge and skills to enhance peacebuilding and social cohesion efforts in Sri Lanka and wherever she resides.
She is particularly interested in creating networks that connect social entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka with global opportunities and resources. By linking these individuals with international partners, she hopes to empower them to create impactful solutions for their communities, driving both local and global change. In the long term, Sajani aspires to become a social entrepreneur, establishing initiatives that address key challenges in conflict-affected regions, focusing on reconciliation, economic development, and social cohesion. She also aims to build a global network of peacebuilders, social entrepreneurs, and organizations working toward the same objectives. Wherever she finds herself in the world, Sajani is committed to using her skills, resources, and influence to advance peace and social development.
